Heartburn Pregnancy Treatment

Q.A manual job is likely to be impossible right the way through unless the woman is superfit in the first place and has minimal symptoms throughout. I was poleaxed most of the way through both pregnancies with vicious heartburn. I was nauseous and throwing up most of the way (day and night). Couldn't sleep at night because of the discomfort and hence couldn't have concentrated on my 'normal' accountancy work at the time... That is like saying the solution to a broken hand is to simply cut off your arm. The answer to troubled pregnancies is to improve the medical treatment of women and their unborn children during the pregnancy. Fortunately, many doctors and scientist do not have your casual disregard for fetal life, and have made great strides in treating children in the womb and treating women suffering side-effects from the pregnancy. With your mentality, employers will be trained to believe that a woman does not "have to" undergo a difficult pregnancy and will feel justified in pressuring her to abort rather than supporting her through the pregnancy. What you are inadvertently doing is penalizing those women who "choose" not to kill their "offspring". Is this your intention? can anyone in the group help me please?

A.In what way? There was a physical cause to my pain and discomfort which was 'incurable' without terminating the pregnancy. Tes, there were several remedies which helped damp down the symptoms to the point where they were just about bearable, but I was willing to put up with the discomfort because I wanted a child at the end of it all. Had I not wanted the child in the first place then it would have been cruel torture to expect me (or anyone else) to undergo the pregnancy and birth when medical techniques could very easily have alleviated the condition very quickly and relatively painlessly. And exactly what strides have been made in treating heartburn in pregnancy in the past 15 years? It was the physical squashing and squishing of my organs by the foetus that was causing the problem. There was nothing *wrong* with me or the foetus. I haven't the faintest idea where you are pulling such ideas from, but it certainly isn't from me. Employers need to understand that 'normal' pregnancy isn't always plain sailing for the woman, and that allowances need to be made, and contingency plans laid to deal with intermittent work patterns during pregnancy. Until the pregnant woman is not discriminated against in the workplace and the job market then she will, if she needs to work to survive, be reluctant to risk losing a job and her income through pregnancy. So she is more likely to abort then than if she knew her job was safe and that she could return to it a month or two after the birth once she had recovered and organised childcare. Where do you get the idea that employers would make a woman abort? They are more likely just to sack her, period.
