Heartburn Remedy Baking Soda

Q.Is there a remedy for heartburn? I'm just assuming that Tums & Rolaids have sugar, I could be wrong, haven't had time since last nite to check it out. I used to use baking soda, but got a horrified "What!?!" from my old dr. because of the salt content, and try not to use it. Anyway, last night I was awakened at 4:30 by heartburn, and lay there until my alarm went off, thinking "Is it really heartburn or am I havng a heart attack?" Amazing what a little knowledge (or lack of) can do. I guess it wasn't a heart attack as I am still here, with all (most) of my faculties intact. Can anyone in the group help me please?

A.Tagamet might help you. It reduces the production of stomach acid. It does contain a small amount of corn starch, but probably not enough to be concerned about. Jusy my two cents, Pepcid AC works really well for my heartburn. It was recomended to me by my pharmacist who told me that it doesn't interact with my other meds (Glucophage and Acuril) and may actually lower BGs slightly, though it has had no effect on mine. that's the other one. But both are used in anticipation of heartburn, which we cannot always judge. A few antacids probably do not do much damage especially if we consider that they do contain some carbs, and adjust our eating accordingly.
