Heartburn Vs Indigestion

Q.Is there anyone out there that has experienced digestive problems after switching from Sandimmune to Neoral? Specifically lower gastrointestinal issues? I'm a very fortunate pancreas/kidney recipient almost a year out who is otherwise doing great. We're trying to figure out the cause of this latest issue can anyone here help me with heartburn and indigestion disease, please?

A.Although I have not been switched, I have been on Neoral since my liver transplant on 16FEB96 and most definitely have heartburn and acid reflux at night. I don't drink coffee or tea or use tobacco but I have been warned by my GI that milk only makes heartburn worse. The heartburn seems to lessen as my Neoral is tapered. I started taking Neoral at 800mg twice daily and am now at 400mg twice daily. As a partial solution, I time my Neoral to 2100hrs (bedtime) so that I may get the maximum amount of sleep before heartburn wakes me up, usually 4 to 6 hours later. I also accompany my bedtime meds with 4 tablets of Maalox which I swallow instead of chewing. Then, when I get up in 4 to 6 hours, I take another 4 tablets of Maalox and sit up and read or go on-line for 15 or 30min. Combined with my doctors perscription of Axid twice daily, I find this easy to live with. Please advise if you have found a better solution. Thanks. BTW - How much salt is there in Gaviscon? Maalox = 0%.
