A.There are several things you can do to help prevent and alleviate heartburn. First, having a healghty diet and getting regular exercise helps to ensure your metabolic and digestive systems work properly. Even healthy people get heartburn or acid reflux sometimes though. So here are some things you can do to help... *NEVER lay down immediately after eating. This makes it harder for any gases to escape (via a burp) and will usually wak you up in the middle of the night with killer acid reflux/heartburn! *Make sure your clothes are not too tight, especially jeans/pants or anything around your waist. This too can stop your system from digesting properly and prevent gases to make it to your intestinal system (to fart). *Take Beano or a similar product before you eat, especially when eating lots of vegetables. *Try to identify what foods that are causing your heartburn and stay away from those. *Tums or Rolaids are quick, temporary fixes. I like the new Rolaids Chews. You only get 6 in a package for about $1, but they taste a lot better than the chalky tablets. *I also like to drink club soda or tonic water - any water that is bubbly - so it makes you burp. Sometimes all you need is a good burp to let out the gases that are seeping up into your throat. *If all else fails, see a doctor. You may have a condition that needs Prilosec, or another prescription.
