These are all over the counter and you can get Pepcid and Zantac generic (Famotidine and Rantitidine). If you have a good presription plan you can ask your doctor for a prescription for stronger agents like these. Heartburn or indigestion could be leading up to something more seriously. If it is a occasional episode then simple Maalox (diovol) can relieve it. But if it continues to increase in incidents then you may have to see a doctor as you may need something (pariet or losec) to decrease the amount of acid that you are producing. Your doctor should know the severity as this symptom could be a early sign of acid reflux disease or ulcer, and a scope may be necessary to diagnose the problem. Diet controle is the best remedy ,along with some medicines like drugs inhibiting acid secretion & antacids to neutralise the excess acid which has been formed. Mental stress also increases the acid secretion so some tranquillisers may als help to get rid of hyperacidity.
