Infant Acid Reflux CauseQ.Acid Reflux in Infants? I don't know if my son has it, suggestions please? my son is 7 months old, and since he was about 3 or 4 months old, he has had this problem with what I thought was vomitting. I took him several times to his pediatrician about this problem. It seems that, at random times, he will vomit at different times after he's had a bottle, whether it be during a feeding or even a couple of hours after. A lot of times, he will wake from his sleep at night, crying, and then vomit. I've tried to explain how he vomits to his doctor, but he doesn't seem to believe that he is vomitting, that he is just "spitting up". When my son does it, it is quite forceful, even though some of it comes out of his nose (which was what led the doctor to believe that it wasn't projectile vomitting). Apparently, he is otherwise in good health. The pediatrician could not find any other problems at all, so he came to the conclusion that it was acid reflux. Is that what it sounds like? Could it be anything else? Is there anything I can do to help ease his discomfort? So can anyone suggest some infant acid reflux cause for my son please? A.I have heard that many babies have this problem and it does make sense because so many adults have this too. Did the doctor tell you what to give the baby? I know Gaviscon helps but don't give this without the doctor saying it is alright. I can tell you how much it hurts and the baby is probably in pain and crying. If you don't agree see another pediatrician but it sounds right to me. It sounds like a possibility. A lot of times infants won't even vomit! They will just cry and wake at night. This is due to the acid refluxing back into the middle ear space causing pain. It doesn't sound like a milk allergy because it would have shown itself sooner than 3 months. Some things you can do are to keep him in a semi-upright posistion for 30 mins after feeding. Don't allow him to drink too quickly. Don't pull him up under his arms. Like when you are picking him up, grasp him around his side and legs instead. Obviously avoid a lot of pressure on the belly. You can also look into possibly giving him Mylanta.
