Infant Acid Reflux SleepQ.My 1 month old was diagnosed with acid relux at 3 weeks and put on medication to relieve the pain. The medicine has not been helping and we have switched it today and hopefully it will start to help him.He wails when we put him on his back to sleep and doesn't get alot of sleep when he does finally pass out.We have tried swaddling him to soothe him but the last time my husband did this he lost it until we unbundled him.I spoke to the pediatrician about him not sleeping and she felt it is a bonding issue and told us to lay him down while drowsy and try to reassure him we were there and if he's fed, dry and warm there should be no reason he shouldn't fall alseep, but shouldn't she have put 2 & 2 together and at least suggested he sleep on his side? I woke up the other morning to find that he had rolled himself on his side.He can lift his head and turn it side to side already,he was a 8lb2oz when born and we have never smoked.I put him on his belly to sleep & then he sleeps good. So can anyone in the group help me please? A.I would say sleeping on his tummy is fine. I hope you are nursing but given your baby has acid reflux it most likely isn't the case. Have you thought about trying to breastfeed, if this is a birthed and not an adoption. If nothing else works try one of those hot/cold pads and warm it to just warm not hot and put it under a blanket under his tummy to sleep. Do not let him lay down for at least an hour after eating and elevate the head of his bed a little Generally, it's not a good idea to put him on his tummy to sleep, especially if he has acid reflux, that can just agrivate the problem by pushing on his stomach and forcing more acid up through his esophegus. They have these foam wedge things you can use, they look like two piramids with space in the middle. You can lay him on his side between them and not worry if he will roll to far one way or the other. Have you changed his formula? If you aren't going with formula and are breast feeding (which may be gentler on his tummy), be careful what you eat, it can affect his tummy too Other Questions : Over The Counter Heartburn MedicationWhat over-the-counter medicine can I give my 2-year old for heartburn?
