Infant Acid Reflux Surgery

Q.My son is 5 months old and has had reflux since the beginning, although it took almost 2 months to figure it out, since at first a lot of it was just the pain, back-arching, not wanting to nurse, or nursing frequently. He spit up, but I just thought he was more of a spitter than my first son, who hardly ever did. Anyway, I was also diagnosed with overactive letdown/hyperlactation around the same time and we weren't sure how much of the symptoms were due to which problem. I tried to cut back my supply somewhat, and also helped him with positions that kept him upright and things improved a bit, for awhile. But now that he's older, he wants to be on the floor and rolling all the time, etc. And no, i don't think he's having a growth spurt, b/c he's been like this for over a month. He just spits up so much of what he takes in that he's constantly hungry. You know that dreamy look of contentment on their faces when they're full? Well, I've only seen that about 4 times in his entire life! I feel so sorry for him. And the worst part is that I feel bad for my 7 yr old, who really is a great kid and helps me a lot, but when I've just finally gotten the baby to sleep, and DS#1 runs thru the house and wakes him up, I yell at him. I don't want him to resent his brother. I know it's not his fault, but I find myself yelling at him way too much. Can anyone help me just by giving me a light at the end of the tunnel? I've heard from some that reflux will improve when they can sit up, from others not until they stand, etc. And, to top it all off, just when i'm losing it all, my mother was visiting yesterday. She'd been ignoring most of what I"d told her about the baby, until she saw him spit up about 6 times in an hour. She said "that's acid reflux!" Duh, what do you think I've been telling you? Then she says (about his lack of wt gain), doesn't the doctor think there's something wrong with your milk? She doesn't understand anything about bf-ing and doesn't even try, but at least she's never said anything against it before now. Just what I needed to hear. OBviously, I know that formula would only make it worse, but you can't argue with good ole Mom! Well, I just needed to get that off my chest, and wonder if anyone else has BTDT. Can anyone in the group help me please? Maybe the infant acid reflux surgery be taken into consideration?

A.We got a bouncy vibrating chair that our daughter just loves. She also has bad infant acid reflux but this little vibrating chair soothes her just like if you were to take her out for a car ride everytime she wasn't comfortable. She is a wonderfully happy baby now (She is on Zantac and Carafate; I am just weaning her off of the Carafate now and then will try to reduce the Zantac to see if now that she is more upright whether or not she still needs it.) The chair also allows her to be inclined to keep the acid's down. I've discovered thru trial and error this last week that the Reglan is doing nothing for it, but I'm continusing the Zantac because I figure at least it decreases the acidity of whatever comes back up, which makes his throat feel better. (maybe) What has seemed to help is cutting caffeine completely out of my diet. I was already using decaf Cokes (when I drink them, not often anyway) but had 1 large cup of coffee in the am, since it didn't bother my first baby. I wasn't thinking about the caffeine bothering reflux, even though I should have. I had to decrease gradually, since I'm very sensitive to withdrawal headaches, but so far, he seems to be improving after the surgery.
