Infants With Acid Reflux

Q.My 5 month old son has Acid Reflux. When the doctor put him on the Zantac he told me I could use Gaviscon instead of the Zantac. If the Zantac did not work that they were basically the same thing just one cost less. He also said if I could find it that Gaviscon makes an infant Gaviscon. Could someone please tell me where I could purchase this at? To the person who answered-- why does he have acid reflux? He has acid reflux because his stomach valve doesn't close all the way after he eats and everthing comes back up. He has had an upper GI and other test to prove his condition. How much Gaviscon should a 5 months old have?

A.If your doctor is telling you to get infant gaviscon then you should get it on prescription and not have to pay for it. Most chemists stock it and i don't think its actually available without prescription. It comes in sachets that you put into baby's milk. But again this is something you doctor should be telling you. or talk to a pharmacist The best thing I advise is that you must go to your local chemist / pharmacy and ask their advise.... they will know what your baby can and cant have ..... If not try you doctor again..... that sound pretty strong for a 5 month old though.... I honestly have never seen infant Gaviscon. Your best bet would be to talk with your pharmacist and if they don't carry it, maybe they could order it for you. As for the dosage, I would call your doctor and ask him. If you can't find the Gaviscon, maybe he could give you info for the dosage of the adult version. Don't try to dose it yourself because too much may cause diarrhea.
