Long term effects of acid reflux medicationsQ.Long term effects of acid reflux medications? My husband has been a lifelong sufferer and has been on just about everything for his reflux. Over the past few years, he has developed recurring pain in his left side/chest area, just below and inside the ribcage. He has seen his regular doctor, his gastroenterologist, the cardiologist and had CT scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, upper GI's, stress/treadmill tests, everything. All the doctors say there is nothing wrong with him. So why the pain? We're wondering if it's possible that the combination of meds that he's been on for the past 15-20 years might be having some effect and causing the pain. Anyone else with this experience? A.Yes, I've been suffering of similar pain specially in the middle of chest, over my stomach and shoulder, I enjoy good general health, my problem is that I've been suffering of insomnia for many years and I have to swallow one slipping pill every night before go to bed, this have caused a proggressive irritation on the gastric tissues and some times bleeding, what I have found it works to neutralize those effects is to have a light dinner no later than 7:00 pm.(specially soft fruits with row oat spilled on, avoid citrics after 4:00 pm) drink a glass of chilled water and chow a couple of Calcium Carbonate or have a soup spoon of Aluminum Hydroxide gel (free selling in malls) just before go to bed, so the gastric acids can not work, avoiding reflux, chest pain and may be another hidden disorder he could have. Be careful with long term problems like gastric ulcer or capillary fragility which is not easily detected, my advise, check for the presence of "Elichobacteryum Pillory" in your stomach, it is very hard to find and produce serious effects even cancer.
