Natural Heartburn Cures

Q.I'm 26 weeks pregnant, and have been getting awful heartburn since before Christmas. I'm sleeping (well trying to sleep) propped up, am swigging antacid direct from the bottle, and am still gagging in the night. It's worst at night, and when I'm lying down. I'm actually getting it all day on and off, but can't sleep cos I can't lie down. I'm now getting sleep deprivation headaches, and I've got *3 MONTHS TO GO* Oh, when I say I'm gagging, I mean I'm waking up choking with my mouth and nose full of fluids that should be in my stomach I've been prescribed Gavison and Asilone (I'm in the UK), but neither has a lasting effect. The only thing which seems to help at all is not eating after 3pm. Of course I pig out on breakfast the next morning I have also managed to down two or three dry crackers in the evening, but this is not a reliable means of preventing the problem or getting any sleep. Does anybody have any miracle heartburn cures?

A.I only had minor heartburn difficulties at the end of my pregnancy, since I was carrying Lynne low and she didn't crowd my stomache--your baby is probably crowding your stomache. I did have some heartburn problems then, and LOTS at the beginning of the pregnancy. Tums helped, but mostly what helped me was a combination of not allowing myself to get really hungry and going on a very low-fat diet. This probably doesn't help you much--hopefully someone else will have more helpful tips for you, other than keep doing what you're doing and wait for the baby to drop--but maybe someone out there is as clueless as I was about the connection between fatty foods and indigestion...
