Natural Heartburn Remedies

Q.Peppermint and ginger can actually exacerbate digestive problems for heartburn sufferers. After I stopped slurping down so much ginger or mint tea for very frequent nausea caused by medication side effects, I spent a LOT less money on heartburn remedies like Tagamet... turns out the ginger was making my heartburn much worse. Same thing goes for mint. I think there are two kinds of nausea. When I get nauseated, I have this feeling of dizziness in my head. Even though it is eased by throwing up, I don't have heartburn or anything like that. Maybe that's why I have success w/ peppermint. Is it correct to call this nausea? Can anyone in the group help me find out if this natural heartburn remedies are true or not.

A.according to this medical dictionary, nausea can be defined as "the urge to vomit," so I think you're doing okay on the terminology aspect. I was referring, primarily, to people who are actively nauseated, are prone to getting heartburn, but may or may not have the heartburn at that particular moment that they're nauseated. Many people are plagued by frequent heartburn (gastric reflux) and so must carefully watch what they consume as some things _really_ aggravate that. Common nausea remedies like ginger and mint can do so - _I_ never made the connection between my vast quantities of ginger tea and increased heartburn until someone told me that A plus B might possibly equal Q instead of the C I expected, so I thought I might pass that info along. If you don't get heartburn on a regular basis and/or something you prefer doesn't aggravate it, by all means use whatever works!
