Pregnancy Heartburn Remedies

Q.I am 6 mos. pregnant and i have heartburn from HELL. is there anything i can do or take besides tums (works for about 15 mins.) i get it mostly at night and its soo bad i could cry or puke most of the time and its interfering with going to sleep. Can anyone in the group help me please?

A.Don't sleep laying down flat. You need to prop yourself up with pillows, because the heartburn is caused by the stomach acids backing up into your esophagus. If you elevate your head, it will greatly reduce the heartburn. Uncomfortable, I know. Also, watch how close to bed time you're eating, and what you're eating. A lot of foods can trigger heartburn, and eating too close to bed can really set it off. So you should do a Google search on foods to stay away from (like anything spicy), elevate your head at night, and see how that goes. If nothing works, check with your doc. Sleep with your head elevated. Try not to eat before you go to bed. Drinking 1tsp. of baking soda in water may help. These are a few things that may work. Also, watch what food you eat, like spicy foods, mints can cause your heartburn to get worse. Ask your doctor for more suggestions
