A.Baking soda reduces the acid in the body as it creates a more alkaline environment. It can be very unhealty to ingest large amounts of baking soda and I would suggest you research this more before using this as a way to combat heartburn. Digestive enzymes before meals often help relieve heartburn as they help the body to digest the foods more effectively. I doubt whether there is enough gastric secretion to cause an explosion of carbon dioxide. Interestingly when the pH of the stomach falls to low secretin is released causing the pancreas to release bicarbonate (presumably protecting duodenal mucosa)
