Stomach Heartburn

Q.Can you feel heartburn in your stomach? I've recently gone to the doctors for chest pain and she diagnosed me with acid reflux& put me on prilosec otc. i've been on it for 3 weeks& i haven't had bad heartburn/chest pain since. but now i have a sharp pain in my stomach. i don't know what it is, could it be a form of acid reflux or just stomach pain?

A.The prilosec is working on the problem, but it's going to take time for your stomach to heal. So you will experience pain until the situation is resolved. Avoid fried foods, fatty foods, junk food, spicy foods, acid foods, coffee and chocolate. For a while you should try to eat very simple such as a yogurt with cereal for breakfast. A baked potato and chicken for lunch . White rice and turkey with green beans for dinner. I'm just giving you an example of how you should eat. I also recommend you eat fresh papaya as it has a great deal of natural healing for the stomach. Heartburn is not really your heart burning. It's all in your stomach. For acid reflux, you still have to follow a careful diet even though you are on medication. Avoid coffee, chocolate, spicy foods, extremely hot beverages, tomato based products (pizza, spaghetti sauce), citrus fruits. Don't eat for at least four hours before going to sleep. The acid build-up can sometimes make you think it's your heart but you just need to change your habits.
