If your heartburn worsens before meal it may be a sign of an ulcer. Loosen your belt. Think again of the toothpaste analogy, Many people can get relief from hertburn simply by wearing suspenders instead of a belt. As from what I know, a heartburn is when you feel some sort of "heat" at the level of the sternum/centre of chest (where your heart is, i.e.) when in fact, it's the upper tip of your stomach that's as if "burning" due to contents of the stomach travelling up your gullet. (There's absolutely nothing to do with your heart). If you have heart burn, you might also have a bitter taste in your mouth. I would recommend omeprazole (a H+ pump inhibitor to reduce secretion of acid in the stomach) but anyway, your physician will recommend you something himself. But if your heart burn is not that frequent, the usual antacid will do the trick!
