Treatment For Acid Reflux In Infants

Q.Is there a test or way to find damages to an infant esophagus due to "LPR" reflux? and are those damages perma what test are avaliable for a doctor to use to find out the damages of an infant esophagus, from acid reflux disease "LPR" ?, and are those damages permnanet?,if not what is the treatment for damages to the voice box, and esophagus? also, are there anyother tests to ask for, to check for damages due to "LPR"? or what is the comman test avaliable for this reflux disease? my baby is 20 months old can anyone in the group help me please?.

A.I'm not familiar with the "LPR", but GERD is what we usually call Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. A 24 hour ph test can be done to evaluate your child's problem. A tiny catheter is placed in one nostril and into the esophagus for 24 hours and will record the ph on a monitor. Your doctor can arrange this for you. Not all hospitals do this test, so depending on where you live, you may need to go to a larger hospital to have it done. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) may contribute to pediatric swallowing dysfunction. GERD treatment may improve the swallowing function in distress. Doctors can assess the damage of the esophagus using Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VSS) or Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing and Sensation Testing (FEESST).
