Treatments For Heartburn

Q.I have started getting serious heartburn at night. It is waking me up and I am also having it during the morning. I've never had this problem before and I'm concerned about what I can take. I am not pregnant yet. My period was a week late, but all tests say I am not pregnant. Is there something that I can take for heartburn that wouldn't hurt if I did get pregnant while taking it Can anyone in the group help me please?

A.If you are TTC you definately want to get this under control asap because any heartburn, indigestion can make morning sickness worse (speaking from experience - I'm 8wk pg now). You can take Tums, but they often are not strong enough to keep the heartburn under control. You can take Gaviscon and Maloxx also you can take Zantac for longer lasting relief. None of these things will cause you or your future baby any problems. The things you want to stay away from are products that contain aluminum and/or sodium bicarbonate You can take pretty much any antacid. Pepcid, tums...... You might adjust your diet some. I have acid reflux and never eat anything two hours before bed. No onions, chocolate, mint, alcohol, spicy foods.....stick to bland stuff until you get it under control. Eat several small meals during the day instead of 3 large ones.
