Vinegar And Acid Reflux

Q.Normally, I am one of those people that can eat anything, anytime. The spicier the better. The last 2 wks, I have had to watch what I eat but Tums did the trick if I wanted anything tomato based. This week, no matter WHAT I eat, I get heartburn. Yesterday, I had toast for breakfast. Heartburn. Carrot sticks for lunch with Ranch dip. Heartburn. I wasn't hungry for dinner.....was even afraid to eat. I woke up in the middle of the night with it even. I'm not talking mild heartburn.....Tums isn't doing the trick anymore. I drink water only now (except for a Lime slush from Sonic to get me through DD's cheerleading practice!). I don't lay down after eating. I realize that I need to eat for the baby (and myself) but WHAT is good to eat that won't make me feel like dying? So far today, I tried bread, no good. I picked up some 7-UP....and it hurts to drink it. Trust me, I want to eat. I am getting headaches from going without. Its getting to the point, where I am not even hungry. Any ideas for this please? Does this link to the vinegar and acid reflux?

A.Careful with how many Tums you munch. My sister OD'd on them in here pregnancy and had some kind of excess Calcium problem (can't remember what happened but it wasn't good). She, however, never does anything in moderation so I imagine she must have eaten a lot of Tums... Here is what works: Maalox. My doctor said Maalox is ok. Whenever I got heartburn pre-pregnancy (haven't gotten it since becoming pregnant knock-on-wood) I would gulp some Maalox and that heartburn would be gone in 1/2 an hour. I'm a big spice and chile fan so I would occasionally get heartburn. Eat foods that digest fast (soup, vegetables, apples, melons, rice). Don't eat things that linger in the stomach (bread, cheese meat, potatoes). Stay away form anything with vinegar in it (dressings especially). Do not eat for 4 hours before going to bed at night (except water). So in other words, if you go to bed at 10pm, do not eat after 6pm - and this means NOTHING. Move around as much as possible between your last meal and bedtime to get that digestion going so that when you go to bed your stomach is empty.
