What Is Heartburn

Q.I know that heartburn is normal during pregnancy but i know what heartburn feels like and i dont know if this is it. Im 33 weeks pregnant and im always getting this burning in the back of my throat, now i heard this could happen but i dont have any heartburn and it always comes whenever not just with spicy foods. I feel like i have to throw up and i cant sleep because of this. Has anyone else had this, and is it just heartburn? So can anyone in the group tell me what is heartburn please?

A.It is actually common and not just in pregnancy. Acid reflux means that the flap on the stomach that separates it from the esophagus is staying open too long. This unfortunately lets some of the stomach digestive juices escape up through the esophagus. This is the heartburn that you may be experiencing. Being you are pregnant, I would see a doctor and take what ever they recommend to relieve you of this. Over the counter medicine may cause harm to the baby ts heartburn/acid reflux... its caused by the baby pushing your stomach into places it was never meant to go... tums are safe while your pregnant and sleeping with your head elevated helps.
