holistic cures for acid reflux

Q.I have a bad burning in my throat and all the way down to my stomach. my throat is very red...it has been here for 3 days now, and it is really painful to eat. How can I cure this, and what could be the cause? is this acid reflux? So can anyone in the group help me please? Also I would also try to find holistic cures for acid reflux ?

A.You may need to be evaluated for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD occurs when your esophageal sphincter, between your esophagus and stomach, fails to close properly. Stomach acids are forced into your esophagus, causing irritation and inflammation. This may result in erosive esophagitis (the inflamed esophagus begins to shed cells). This in turn may result in a precancerous condition called Barrett's Esophagus, which then may result in esophageal cancer. GERD does not resolve itself without treatment. There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, that your physician may recommend. Your physician can also educate you regarding foods that may exacerbate (make worse) acid reflux. GERD isn't "just heartburn". GERD can be deadly. You do not have to have pain to be accumulating damage (though you obviously have pain!). You may need to see a physician.
